Dragonboaters Friends:
Do we always just row and paddle our dragonboat? Nope! Many of us are “jack of all trades”. We are stronger in our upper bodies, but we love all kinds of crazy things and activities too, like going for marathons, adventure racings, canoeing and kayaking championship, etc etc… I still remembered how we went for an intensive 2 months kayaking and canoeing championship trainings – made compulsory by our coach, and I fondly remembered that together with my team-mate, we were silver medallists in the Women Open championship double kayak, just behind the champions who were original national kayakers. And overall, my team bagged the OVERALL champion during that year. Never in my life would I have imagined that one day I would be racing as a kayaker as I started off training as a dragonboater in my varsity. Kudos to my coach who had given me this opportunity to do something different other than dragonboating. It was an experience I would remember for life.
What else we do? Other crazy stuffs like one of my team-mates love running marathons, and this year she has competed 4 full distance marathons. Oh, we love events like the Northface 100 too:
Many years back, my team-mates were the first team in Singapore to go for the famous Eco-challenge. One of my team-mates captained Asia ’s first women-majority team to successfully complete the Eco-Challenge race, touted as the world’s toughest adventure course. Don’t know what an eco-challenge is, this video would be useful:
